Canadian Border Closing


WHEREAS, BSE { Bovine Spongiform Encephalophy } has been found in three Canadian cows an one USA cow of Canadian origins in the last two years, and BSE causes fatal brain-wasting disease in human beings, and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Administration refuses to enact the Country of Origin laws as passed by congress, thereby making it impossible for consumers to choose the country of origin of their meat, and

WHEREAS, the presence of BSE in the U.S. cattle herd would cause economic disaster for American ranchers, and pose a great risk to the health of the U.S. population.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the SC3 is in favor of keeping the U.S. border closed to the importation of Canadian beef until U.S. consumers and cattlemen can be assured of zero risk of the spread of BSE from the Canadian herd.
